Borrow, Renew, & Request Library Materials

Borrowing

The majority of our Library collections are open to the public, and in-library use of materials does not require an account.

Library borrowing privileges are available to anyone 18 years of age or older who is either affiliated with the University, College of the Redwoods, Universities of California, other California State Universities or a member of the local community. The online Library Catalog, OneSearch, is accessible on the Internet to anyone, anywhere.

Renewals

Renewals may be requested online through your account, by telephone at (707) 826-3431, or in person at the library Front Desk.

To access a list of your checked out library materials, visit OneSearch and select My Account from the top right Menu (alternatively, go directly to the login page).

  • You will be asked for your Cal Poly Humboldt username and password. If already logged in, you will be taken directly to your My Account page.
  • A list of your loaned items will appear, and a box at the left of each item can be clicked to select the items you wish to renew.
  • Click on the "Renew Items" button next to an item to proceed with the renewal. “Renew all” may also be selected.
  • The list will update with new due dates for the selected items.
  • Renewal may not be allowed if an item is excessively overdue or library circulation policy does not allow renewal.

Contact the library Front Desk at (707) 826-3431 or libcirculation@humboldt.edu with any questions.

Requests, Searches, & Holds

Please note that Item request and hold services are available to current Cal Poly Humboldt students, faculty, and staff only.

If you need a book, whether it is checked out or not, you can place a request for it using the Library Catalog. You can also use hold requests to have library staff search for a book that you are unable to find in the stacks – just place a request on the title through OneSearch.

To place a request:
  • Search the title in the OneSearch
  • When you are in the item record, note the circulation status
    • “Local copy unavailable” and “Out of Library” means the item is checked out
    • “Item in Place” means the item is not checked out
  • Click on “Make a Request” if the title is available in the library, or “Get It” if it is unavailable to request a copy from another library
  • Login and fill out the request form
  • Hit “Send Request”
  • You will be notified via email when your item is ready to be picked up.
