About the Digital Media & Learning Internship

The Cal Poly Humboldt Digital Media Lab (DML) is a space where all students, staff and faculty can work on and get assistance with creating digital media projects, such as video, audio, photo, virtual reality and web-based projects. The DML houses a variety of software, including Adobe Creative Cloud, Camtasia, iMovie and GarageBand. The DML also provides a variety of equipment for checkout, including video and still cameras, microphones, digital recorders, VR headsets, 360-degree cameras, and more. In addition, the DML hosts SkillShops, events and drop-in services to spark creativity and assist people with their projects. Whether working on a class assignments or creating a passion project, the DML is an integral space on campus for developing and learning about digital media projects.

The Digital Media & Learning internships help students share their passion for creativity, digital projects, social justice or sustainability. The internships help students:

  • Create exciting digital projects
  • Help other students learn digital skills
  • Design your own workshop
  • Explore and experiment with new technologies
  • Find new ways of creating and communicating.

Digital Media & Learning internships are broken down into two categories: Project-based or Teaching & Learning.

Project Internships provide interns with hands-on experience creating a project that connects their passions with their professional goals, community, or academics. The goal is to help students turn their idea into a project.

Examples of digital media projects include video, websites, web applications, audio, photo, and emerging technologies such as 360-degree video, virtual reality, and augmented reality. Projects with a focus on social justice or environmental sustainability are preferred.

Teaching & Learning Internships provide interns with experience in designing and facilitating a SkillShop and in creating teaching and learning materials. Interns design face-to-face and/or online tutorials to help other students create digital media projects.
