To Catch the Rain by Lonny Grafman will be the next release from HSU Press. The work chronicles communities around the world that have utilized local resources to harvest rain water. The book includes instructions and illustrations on how you too can become a rain harvester.

Lonny Grafman is a lecturer in the HSU Environmental Resources & Engineering Department. He describes To Catch the Rain on his Kickstarter page as, “a book for people looking to build a future together.”

HSU will observe the annual Fred Korematsu Day of Civil Liberties and the Constitution with a documentary film OF CIVIL WRONGS & RIGHTS. The screening will be followed by a facilitated discussion of the history of Japanese American World War II internment camps by Prof. Christina Accomando and Prof. Michihiro Clark Sugata on Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 5pm in Library's Fishbowl.

The public is invited. Fred Korematsu was an average 23-year-old California native working as a shipyard welder. But when he refused to obey Executive Order 9066, which sent 120,000 Americans of Japanese ancestry into internment campus, he became something extraordinary -- a civil rights champion. This film follows Korematsu's story from the moment he first resisted confinement to the hard-won victory he finally achieved 39 years later, with the help of a new generation of Japanese-American activists seeking vindication and the assurance that such a terrible injustice would never occur again. This observance marks the state of California's decision in 2010 to designate January 30 as the annual anniversary honoring Korematsu for his lifelong fight for civil rights. In the years before Korematsu's death in 2005, he served on the Constitution Project's bipartisan Liberty and Security Committee. The project is a think tank that advocates rule of law and criminal justice programs.

Join Tim Miller in the Scholars Lab on the Library's 3rd floor Monday-Friday, December 4-8, at 5pm to celebrate the global Hour of Code.  From the basics of coding to creating video games and virtual reality, every night will be a different project. Food and drinks will be provided to help you stay motivated at this busy time of the year.

Come see what interesting research the senior wildlife students conducted!  Posters will be displayed outside the Fishbowl on the 2nd floor from 4-6pm on Thursday, December 7th.  Cookies and refreshments will be served.

The Humboldt State University Library invites applications for a full-time, through May 28, 2018, temporary Instruction & Research Librarian to provide outstanding instruction and reference services. In collaboration with the Coordinator of Instruction and Reference and the Instructional Working Group, this position will provide creativity in the design and delivery of library programs designed to support undergraduate success. The emphasis of this position is to support serving the general education, freshman/sophomore courses, workshops, and international students.
