Do you find that these stories and characters that you write about resemble actual people in your life--real life experiences; or how do you create the characters in your books? What reseach have you done, or people have you spoken to in order to gain the insight into what these characters might go through?

I was very curious after reading Reservation Blues to see some of the endorsements on the cover which used words like "humor," "entertaining," and if I remember right even "comedy." I did not experience the story as any of these things....I would have used words like "real/genuine," or "heartbreaking," or Native life--gotta laugh to keep from cring." When you told the story, what perspective dd you use? How did you exprience it as you wrote it?
