Art Inside the Library

The HSU Library displays a wonderful collection of artwork which are on loan from the HSU Art Departments permanent collection. Many of the works, including paintings and sculptures, were created by HSU faculty, alumni and members of the community.

Brain Booth

The Library Brain Booth is an informal, experiential space to learn about the mind body connection and optimize learning. Try out biofeedback, sound and light therapy, virtual reality goggles, coloring, meditation, and other activities that promote intentional brain breaks and support emotional self-regulation and singular thoughtful focus. Everyone is welcome!

Discovering Humboldt: Getting Humboldt County on the Map & Social Media

Join HSU Library in improving the online discovery of the places we enjoy in Humboldt, and be a part of supporting the economic resilience of Humboldt County. HSU Library is offering a series of free online workshops to help put the places we love on the map, literally, using Google Maps and other platforms. It’s fun and easy to contribute photos and reviews, and that has a powerful impact on our community and the economy.

Giving to the Library

The HSU Library is committed to offering our students the tools and guidance they need to flourish in their studies and their careers. There are many ways to support the educational opportunities at HSU’s Library of the Future from the creation of state‐of‐art collaborative workspaces to life‐changing Humboldt Scholars Internships.

HSU Authors Hall

The HSU Authors Hall is a growing collection of books, CDs, and DVDs of scholarship and creative works from HSU faculty, emeriti faculty, staff, students, and alumni authors.  The HSU Library is also launching SelectedWorks, a service that allows faculty and staff authors to showcase their articles, books, papers, and presentations.

HSU Press

Humboldt State University Press publishes high-quality, open-access scholarly, intellectual, and creative works by or in support of our campus community. HSU Press operations and publications support the HSU mission and vision to improve the human condition and our environment by promoting understanding of social, economic, and environmental issues.

HSU Sustainable Learning

The HSU Sustainable Learning Program will support faculty through its partnership with the Library, College of eLearning & Extended Education, Student Disability Resource Center, Bookstore and others to help faculty decrease the cost of an education for our students and provide high-quality, peer-reviewed learning materials.

Humboldt Scholars Lab

The Humboldt Scholars Lab is a place where students and faculty from across a variety of disciplines are provided with technology and training to partner on digital projects with a focus on the digital humanities, geospatial information, and innovative creations.

L4HSU (Lifelong Learning Lounge)

Library Scholar Internships

Library Scholar interns benefit from project-based learning and undergraduate research opportunities that produce hands-on learning in Special Collections, Digital Media, or Scholarly Communications. Library Scholar interns lead projects such as researching and writing for the web, curating exhibits and engagement programs, creating presentations, and text layout and digitization for the Humboldt State University Press.

Skilled Learner Certificate

HSU students can be certified Skilled Learners by attending five SkillShops on learning College & Study Skills, Finding & Using Information, Leadership & Career, Personal Growth, and Technology & Digital Media.


SkillShops are 50 minute drop-in workshops offered to introduce and develop skills in important areas for student success.

Student employees are vital to providing library services. Over 30 students are employed by the library in many positions and offices.
