U.S. - General Maps
This section only lists resources that are general in nature or that cover
many different themes. For resources that emphasize a specific theme look

Resources guide.
- National Atlas of the United States

- Geodata.gov
Map Viewer (US Government) Interactive mapper includes "national
map" data layers for the contiguous US, Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.
As one zooms in more data options become available. One can also add data
layers using additional sources available at geodata.gov.
- National
Digital Map Library (University of Virginia Library Geospatial and Statistical
Data Center) Contains a general map of the United States and, for each of
the 50 states, a series of five maps that show the state boundary outline,
county boundaries, national parks and forests, hydrography, and major cities.
- National Map
(US Geological Suvey) Interactive map service supported by a variety of federal
and state agencies that contains layers covering adminstrative boundaries,
elevation, geology, hydrology, land use/ land cover, orthoimagery, topography
and transportation.
- Relief maps
of the United States (Birrell) Contains false-color 3-D relief maps of
the entire United States and for each region in the United States.
- Shaded

- 3D
Views of the United States (ER Mapper)Combines AVHRR satellite imagery,
DEM, geology, and structure in one view.
- TIGER
Mapping Service (US Bureau of the Census) - Will generate public domain
street level maps using the TIGER (Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding
and Referencing System) database for anywhere in the United States. One can
pan and zoom and download as a .gif image. Twenty-one boundary and transportation
data layers can be turned on or off.
- U.S.--1:100,000 (US Geological Survey) (map
G 3700 s100 U5) - Topographic map series at a scale of 1:100,000 covering
the contiguous U.S. See index on the Map Display Panel in the Atlas and Map
Collection in the Library.
- U.S.--1:250,000 (US Geological Survey) (map
G 3700 s250 U5) - Series of 600 topographic maps at a scale of 1:250,000 covering
all 50 states. See index on the Map Display Panel in the Atlas and Map Collection
in the Library.
