- Folded road maps of states, foreign countries, California cities and counties,
and other major cities are kept in map vertical filing cabinets in the Atlas
and Map Collection.
Internet Maps and Atlases
These typically allow one to enter a street address, city, state, or zip
code to create a street level map of a location; or to enter a starting
and ending point to get driving instructions.
- AAA Maps and Directions (American Automobile
Association) Get driving directions or street level maps for a specific address
in the US or Canada. Includes lodging, restaurant, and attraction info found
in AAA tour books.
- A9.com Maps (A9.com) Get road maps for
a specific location or driving directions for the United States, Canada and
Mexico using Navteq digital mapping data. Also provides street level images
for approximately 25 cities in the United States.
- City-Map
Sites (University of Texas, Austin Perry-Castaņeda Library Map Collection)
Contains links to maps of individual cites throughout the world.
- Google Maps (Google) The basic
view includes road maps, satellite imagery and terrain maps for the
world. In addition there is detailed street view imagery and traffic
information for selected metropolitan areas in the United States.
You can create driving driving directions between two points, or search
for businesses near a location. The Google
Maps Mania blog tracks "mashups" web sites that add

- Great Britain Street and Road Map
(Streetmap.co.uk) Includes street maps of Great Britain. Search by street
name, place name, post code, Ordnance Survey qrid, Landranger grid, or lat/long
coordinate.

Map Machine (National Geographic) Detailed road map coverage of
the United States, Canada and European countries with less detailed maps for
the rest of the world.
- MapQuest - Search by business name
to find its location, create a map of a specific location, or get driving
directions. Advanced features of driving directions include shortest time,
shortest distance, avoid highways and avoid tolls. Uses Tele Atlas digital
mapping.
- Maporama - Create maps and driving
directions for specific addresses in the United States, Canada, and European
countries; and more general maps for the rest of the world.
- Map24 - Create maps and driving directions
for countries in North America, Europe, the Middle East and Brazil. The user
interface in each country is available in one or more of 12 native languages.
The "Interactive" map option provides 3-D views for both specific
addresses and driving directions. Requires the installation of Java Virtual
Machine for the 3-D option.
- Maps On Us (SwitchBoard) - Search
by business name to find its location, create a map of a specific location,
or get driving directions (fastest or shortest). Uses Navteq digital mapping.
- Metrobot (Metrobot) Enter
an address or business name in the United States to display a street segment
with surrounding businesses noted and a link to a Google Local map.
- Multimap.com - Offers street level
maps of Europe, Australia, Canada and the United States and less detailed
road maps for the rest of the world. Use the interactive mapper or the World Map and Placename Index to navigate
to a specific location. Get driving directions for locations in Europe and
Australia.
- National Highway
System (US Federal Highway Administration) Includes maps for each state
in pdf format.
- PagesJaunes--Photos
de Villes Street level imagery for approximately 20 cities in France and
Spain
- Road Map Project
(Pacific Biodiversity Institute) Map containing a representation of all 7
million miles of roads in the lower 48 states of the United States, and, conversely,
roadless areas.
- Subway
Navigator (Paris Transport Authority) Includes subway maps for over 100
cities worldwide. Create routes from station lists or map. Resulting page
shows best routes, transfers and an estimate of the time required for travel.
Aslo inlcudes links to official web sites of individual transport providers
and selected tourist attractions.
- TIGER Mapping Service
(US Bureau of the Census) Generate public domain street level maps using the
Census Bureau's TIGER database.
- USA National
Gas Temperature Map (GasBuddy) Shows gas prices by county in the United
States. Prices are color-coded for the average price of regular unleaded gasoline
in each county. Right clicking on a county will show gas prices reported at
selected stations in the county.
- ViaMichelin (Michelin) - Generate
European street and route maps for Europe, Canada and the United States. Includes
lodging, restaurant and tourist information from Michelin travel guides.
- Microsoft Live Earth (Microsoft)
Get driving directions or street level maps for a specific address in the
US, Canada or Europe. Includes real-time traffic reports for major US metro
areas. Uses Navteq digital mapping.
- Yahoo Maps (Yahoo) - Generate street
level maps and driving directions for the U.S. and Canada; and locate businesses
near a specified location. Uses Navteq digital mapping data.
