- C-CAP
Data Map Server ((US National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration Coastal Services Center) Interactive web site with basic
tools to view and download Coastal
Change Analysis Program (C-CAP) land cover and change data for coastal
regions of the United States. Using satellite imagery
land cover is classified into 22 types.
- Coastal Assessment
& Data Synthesis System (US National Ocean Service Special Projects
Office) The CA&DS system is a national- and regional-level data base and
mapping analysis tool that can be used in coastal stewardship. The database
contains information by watershed on population; estuarine living resources;
land use and land cover; shellfish; physical and hydrologic characteristics;
eutrophication; and socioeconomic characteristics. Choose from ready made
maps or use the interactive mapper to create your own map.
- Geographic Face of the Nation--Land Cover (US
Geological Survey and US Environmental Protection Agency) 2002 (map G
3701 D2 1992 G4) 1:4 million-scale map shows 21 classes of land cover
for the conterminous United States derived from the 1992 National Land
Cover Dataset.
- Land Use and Land Cover (US Geological
Survey) 1975-1984 (G 3701 G4 s250 U5--see the index in the Map Filing
Cabinet for coverage) Older series of maps covering the continental U.S.
and Hawaii at a scale of mostly 1:250,000 with selected 1:100,000 coverage
that classifies land use and land cover into 37 "Level II" categories.
. Maps are produced from remote sensing imagery with the smallest area
mapped being either 10 acres or 40 acres depending upon the category.
A Land Use and Land Cover Classification System for Use with Remote
Sensor Data (Anderson) 1976 (USGS Professional Paper 964) (Docs
I 19.16:964) serves as a guide to the classification system. Also available
digitally for use in GIS applications through Land
Use and Land Cover (LULC) (US Geological Survey) or GIS Data Depot (Geocommunity). This older
series is updated by the 1992 National
Land Cover Dataset that uses a modified 21-class land cover classification
scheme.
- NWI
Maps (National Wilderness Institute) Set of maps showing government
land use patterns in the United States.
- National Wetlands Inventory (US Fish & Wildlife Service)
(microfiche copies in Docs I 49.6/7-12; print copies for Humboldt and
Del Norte County available in the Humboldt Room Map Case) Series of maps
at scales of 1:24,000 and 1:100,000 for the United States which classify
wetlands into 55 different classes using the Classification
of Wetlands and Deepwater Habitats of the United States (Cowardin)
1979 (print copy available in Docs I e49.89:79/31). National
Wetlands Inventory Maps lists maps available for each state, including
California.
For additional information see Wetland Mapping and Inventory
(US Geological Survey). Wetlands Mapper
(US Fish & Wildlife Service) is an interactive mapper that allows one
to view National Wetlands Inventory digital data as well
as stream and road data. You can also view wetlands data layers with Google Earth.
- Surface Management Status (US Bureau of
Land Management) (G 3701 G51 s100 U5) Series of maps at a scale of 1:100,000
showing US land ownership. See index on Map Display Panel in the Atlas
and Map Collection in the Library. A map index to California
maps is available.
- State
of the Land (US Natural Resources Conservation Service) Links to several
hundred maps on a United States basemap that have been derived from Natural
Resources Inventory data. Subjects covered include agricultural
productivity, climate, cropland, forest land, grazing land, land capability,
land use, soils, water quality, water supply, and wetlands.
- USA Federal Lands (ESRI) Maps federal and tribal land areas of the United States using ArcGIS map viewer or ArcGIS Explorer.
