Biological Indexes and Fulltext Databases
These research tools are used to provide access to "primary" research literature in biology. This literature includes journal papers, journals, conference papers, monographic series, and publications issued in other specialized formats as described in The Literature of Biology.
Depending upon the index these publications may be retrieved in a variety of ways--by author, subject, taxonomy, life stage, geography, time, chemical compound, or habitat.
Before starting a literature search through one or more of the following indexes, a search strategy should be developed which defines and logically organizes a search into its unique concepts. The Search Strategy Worksheet presents a four-step outline for developing such a subject search strategy.
The following biological indexes are available to current HSU students and faculty, either in the Library, on-campus or remotely. Click on the title to search the index or on the icon for additional information, including search guides.
