The first World Wide Web directory for women and girls, Femina may be the best, too. It has a category structure like Yahoo's, and you can also search by keyword. This rich site is a key resource.
Selected Women's & Gender Resources on the World Wide Web (www.library.wisc.edu/libraries/WomensStudies/othsubj.htm)
Maintained by the Women's Studies Librarian's Office at the University of Wisconsin, this site has links to dozens of subjects related to women, such as Art, Domestic Violence, Film, Legal Studies, Music, Philosophy, Sports, and many others.
Voice of the Shuttle Gender Studies Page (vos.ucsb.edu/shuttle/gender.html)
This is a "sub-page" of The Voice of the Shuttle: Web Page for Humanities Research, a site maintained by a team at UC Santa Barbara. The Gender Studies Page has general and specific links for women's studies & feminist theory, gay, lesbian & queer studies, men's movements, and cybergender & techgender. This excellent, searchable site is rich, clearly organized, and frequently up-dated.
WSSLINKS (libraries.mit.edu/humanities/WomensStudies/wscd.html)
The Women's Studies section of the Association of College and Research Libraries maintains this valuable collection of links. It is arranged in categories, including General sites, Archives, Culture, Education, International, Lesbian Sites, Philosophy, Science and Technology, Theology, and others. Each category has its own site with its own developer, so contents and organization vary somewhat. However, all are extensive, current, and well-researched.
WWWomen! The Premier Search Directory for Women Online! (www.wwwomen.com)
This large directory of links claims "no political, religious, or philosophical agenda" and hopes to be useful to "women of all attitudes and persuasions." The site's goal is to find "all sites on the Web relevant to women." You can choose to browse in categories such as Community & Government, Computers & Internet, Lesbian Visibility, Personal Time, Science & Technology, Women's Sports, or Women Throughout History. Or you can search by keyword to locate links to sites of interest.
Yahoo (www.yahoo.com)
There are over 600 Yahoo categories related to women. You can browse through the "Society and Culture" subcategories to find increasingly specific subject links. You will probably also want to use the Search feature to find links of interest. You can search for general subjects (eg, women, feminism) or more specific things (eg, gender equity, wicca, or child care).

LISTSERVS

One of the most useful Internet resources is the listservs, also known as mailing lists or electronic conferences. Listservs give access to expert opinion, some academic and some from practicing experts, or to lively discussions among enthusiasts. You may choose to "lurk" (sign on and read the postings without entering the discussion) or to contribute questions or opinions of your own. In the directories of listservs described below, instructions for subscribing are included in the entry for each listserv.

The best directory of scholarly listservs is maintained by Diane Kovacs. This link goes to her complete subject list.
The Liszt (www.liszt.com)
This is a more general directory of listservs, Usenet groups, and other forms of electronic communication. You can search the Liszt site for listservs on your subject of interest.
Gender-related Electronic Forums (www-unix.umbc.edu/~korenman/wmst/forums.html)
This is a specialized directory, covering listservs concerned with a wide range of gender issues.

Ecofeminism
Eve Online: Ecofeminist Visions Emerging (http://www.enviroweb.org/eve)
A group of ecofeminists created this Website to further their work, which involves "both cerebral and spiritual levels." The site offers a definition of ecofeminist, full text essays, a bibliography, and "links to allies," a current and wide ranging list of links to organizations, online magazines, listservs, and more, all related in one way or another to matters of concern to the ecofeminists of EVE.

Feminist Activism
About-face (www.about-face.org)
This site "combats negative and distorted imagery of women in the media." It includes a section on References for Your Paper, related links, a forum, a Gallery of Offenders, and Positive Image Galleries. There is a recommended reading list, lots of statistics, and information for making changes.
Feminist Activist Resources on the Net (www.igc.apc.org/women/feminist.html)
Links to organizations and other resources useful to feminist activists are on this searchable site.

This searchable collection of links and information is current and easy to navigate. It has links to national and international activist organizations in politics, business, health, the arts, and other contemporary issues of interest to women. Check the Resources and Links for other useful Internet sites. You may also want to read Inspiring Women Quotes, or the full text Articles and Speeches on a wide range of topics.
Feminist Majority Foundation Online (www.feminist.org)
The site of a national political action group for women, this site has information, news, and contacts on many subjects of interest to women. Sections include Take Action, Feminist Student Activism Online, Breast Cancer Center, Feminist Career Center, Global Feminism, and Feminist Arts, Literature, and Entertainment.
National Organization for Women (www.now.org)
This site includes information about NOW and its activities, including links to local chapters. The sections on Key Issues has information on NOW actions as well as background articles and essays on the issues.
Women Leaders Online/Women Organizing for Change (wlo.org)
For women working within the United States political system, this site is excellent. You can email your elected representatives from here, learn about women's social issues, get help with organizing an election campaign, and more.

Lesbian Views and Voices
Amazon Online: Resources for Lesbians and Bi Women (www.amazon.org)
This site has a San Francisco Bay Area orientation, but there are many links of general interest to lesbians and bi women, and straight women, too.

This well maintained lesbian-oriented site has links covering a variety of issues of concern to lesbians and their supporters.
Oddgirl's Lesbian Links (www.oddgirl.com)
This searchable site has a rating system for degree of lesbian visibility on the Webpages indexed. This is a more selective list, with relatively fewer, high quality links. A wide range of subjects is covered.

Speeches by Women
Gifts of Speech (gos.sbc.edu)
Maintained by Sweetbriar College, this site has a large collection of the full texts of speeches and other public statements (e.g., poetry and interviews) by contemporary women. You can search by name of the woman or browse alphabetically.

Women in Science
4000 Years of Women in Science (www.astr.ua.edu/4000WS/4000WS.html)
This site includes brief biographical information about women scientists, mostly pre-20th Century. Not many physicians are included, and science is defined boradly. The biographies can be displayed in alphabetical order by name, chronologically, or by field of study. A list of references is included.
Biographies of Women Mathematicians (www.agnesscott.edu/lriddle/women/women.htm)
In alphabetical or chronological order, starting in the 5th century BCE, this site has biographical sketches of women mathematicians compiled by students at Agnes Scott College. References are cited.
Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility Gender Page (www.cpsr.org/program/gender)
This site is meant to support and offer mentoring to women who want to work or function in computer related fields. It aims to include a list to online information and scholarship on gender and computing. It includes lists of "general" and "feminist" resources, a collection of full text papers on women and computing, lists of women's organizations, jobs available, conference announcements, and funding and grant sources.

Produced by Santa Monica Women's College, this site has links to help women who want careers in science. There are sections links to statistics, organizations, networking, women's health, scholarships, and university programs. This site has gathered a wealth of useful information.
Woman Nobel Prize Laureates (www.almaz.com/nobel/women.html)
In addition to biographical information about women who have won the Nobel Prize, this site has links to other sites relevant to women in science and technology.

Women in the Arts
Guerilla Girls (www.guerillagirls.com)
This group of anonymous women artists and art professionals wears gorilla masks and uses humor to raise consciousness about racism and sexism. A selection of their posters is on view at this Website, along with information about the group and their activities.
National Museum of Women in the Arts (www.nmwa.org)
Interested in women artists of all times and places, the Museum collects and exhibits women's art and supports research and education about women artists. Its Website is a resource for information on women in the fine arts from the Renaissance to the 20th Century. There are profiles of prominent artists, bibliographies, full text essays, and examples of art work. Use the Table of Contents to explore this site.
The World's Women Online (wwol.inre.asu.edu)
Begun in conjunction with the United Nations 4th World Conference on Women in Beijing, 1995, this site is a directory of contemporary women artists worldwide. Each entry has a sample of the artist's work and biographical information.

Women of Color
Exoticize ... My Fist (members.aol.com/Critchicks/index.html)
A very large collection of links maintained by an Asian American feminist named Mimi Nguyen. Pacific Islanders are included. The links are on the second screen.
Making Face, Making Soul: A Chicana Feminist Homepage (chicanas.com)
This lively site "by, for, and about Chicanas," and "everybody else", too, is rich and well designed. It includes biographies, poetry, cultural and academic resources, and more.
Women on the Net (members.aol.com/aawon1/mvp1.html)
Predominantly reflecting Black women's concerns, this large site has links of interest to women of many ethnic and cultural backgrounds and traditions. Scroll down and click on the link go to main index to start. The links are arranged in categories; scroll through to get a sense of the scope.

This organization collects statistics and other information on contraception and abortion. Their Website has articles and statistics on these subjects and information about the Institute.
Prevention's Healthy Ideas (www.prevention.com)
Prevention Magazine has a site with information and upbeat suggestions about weight loss and fitness, healthy cooking, natural living, and other matters related to maintaining good health. Take the quiz and find out "What's Your Workout Personality?" Check the Nutrition News or perform a meal makeover, or try the recipe finder.

Note:"Herstory" on the Web tends to find personal history or the history of specific women's groups.
Medieval Feminist Index (www.haverford.edu/library/reference/mschaus/mfi/mfi.html)
This searchable index covers over 300 journals and numerous essay collections. Publications from 1995 and 1996 are almost fully indexed; 1994 and 1997 are in process. Articles and essays dealing with Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East during 450 to 1500 CE on topics of women, gender, and sexuality are listed. The site also includes links to other Web resources on medieval women.
National Women's History Project (www.nwhp.org)
This is the Website of the major nonprofit organization dedicated to educating about and publicizing women's historic contributions to society and the history of women's lives. Take the women's history quiz, explore the links to ideas, events, and more. This is a very rich site, an excellent place to begin women's history research on the Web.

Amazon Radio is a program of women's music on a station in Connecticut. Its Webpage has playlists with links to information about some of the featured artists, a calendar of local events, and a list of links to other women's music, culture, and activism sites.
Ladyslipper Music: Recordings by Women (www.ladyslipper.org)
Ladyslipper's catalog is the definitive resource for women's music. You can link to it from this site, listen to recordings, learn more about women's music artists, or visit Ladyslipper's "friends," via a list of links related to music and women's issues.

Women's Spirituality
Covenant of the Goddess (www.cog.org)
Membership in the Covenant Of The Goddess, one of the earliest groups for witches, is open to solitary practitioners and groups. Their website has information about COG and about witchcraft, its beliefs, holidays, etc. The site also includes links to COG's regional councils, such as the Northern California Local Council (www.conjure.com/COG/cog.html). The Northern California site has many links to regional resources and websites of interest.
Jewish Feminist Resources (world.std.com/~alevin/jewishfeminist.html)
A no-frills list of links, arranged in categories: Art; Judaism; Past and Present; Organizations; Periodicals and Websites. This list is current and selective, maintained by a woman named Adina Levin.
Muslim Women's League (www.mwlusa.org/welcome.html)
The Muslim Women's League describes itself as "a nonprofit American Muslim organization working to implement the values of Islam and thereby reclaim the status of women as free, equal, and vital contributors to society." Their very informative website has news and analysis, position papers, and in-depth essays relevant to their stated purpose.
Sakyadhita: The International Association of Buddhist Women (www2.hawaii.edu/~tsomo)
Many relevant links can be found on this page, including Events, Retreats, and Teachings for Buddhist Women, Buddhist Women's Projects, Women Teachers in Buddhism, and Female Deities of the Tibetan Buddhist Tradition. There is also a list of links to other sites related to Buddhism.
Sister Site (www.geocities.com/Wellesley/1114/sindex.html)
This is a liberal Catholic site, intended to be a "clearinghouse for information on women's religious congregations, the history of religious life, and the contemporary concerns of women in church and society." Sister Site's subject index page is a rich source of links of interest to women from many religious traditions. It is well maintained and easy to navigate.
SisterSpirit (www.teleport.com/nonprofit/sister-spirit)
This is the site of a women's spirituality group based in Portland, Oregon, with interests in Goddess centered and other alternative religious traditions. The site includes a calendar, descriptions of rituals, with texts, an online magazine, and a list of selected "women's and alternative spirituality links." Some of the "alternatives" include Eastern religions.
Under Shekhina's Wings: Cross-Cultural Women's Spirituality (www.geocities.com/Athens/1501)
This site provides information and links for "Jewish feminist, Earth Religions or Pagan feminist, Christian feminist, and Freedom of Religion, with additional links to Bahai and mythology sources." Choose either the "frames" or "no frames" version to begin exploring this rich site.
The Witches' Voice (www.witchvox.com)
This searchable site is updated daily. It describes itself as "a proactive educational network dedicated to correcting misinformation about witches and witchcraft." The site has over 2000 pages. The "Witchcraft FAQ's" is a good place to start.

Women's Sports
WWW Women's Sports Page (www.gslis.utexas.edu/~lewisa/womsprt.html)
"An index of links to women's and girls' sports pages around the WWW," this extensive and well maintained site has categories including a long list of sports from Archery to Wrestling, Athletes, Organizations and Associations, Issues in Women's and Girls' Sports, and others. It hasn't been updated recently, though.

Women's Studies
Artemis Guide to Women's Studies Programs Throughout the United States (www.users.interport.net/~kater)
A college student developed this site while she was looking for a graduate program in women's studies. It is searchable by state.
Women's Studies Database (www.inform.umd.edu/EdRes/Topic/WomensStudies)
This site from the University of Maryland is most useful for its many links of interest to scholars active in women's studies, such as calls for papers, conference announcements, employment opportunities, program development and support, and syllabi for courses. There are also links to material on women's studies topics, including gender issues (but not lesbian issues), politics and government, and women's history.
