Women's Studies on the Internet

Discussion Groups, also known as listservs or electronic conferences, are one of the most useful Internet resources for many purposes, especially scholarship. They give access to expert opinion, both academic and professional, or to lively discussions among enthusiasts. You may "lurk" (sign on and read the postings without entering the discussion), or you may contribute your own questions and opinions. The directories below are searchable and include instructions for subscribing to the lists they identify.

Directories and Search Engines help you find websites of interest. General information on these resources is available in OWL 3.

Here are a few sites that are particularly recommended for finding academically useful information on women's studies topics:

Feminist.com (http://feminist.com)
This searchable collection of links and information is current and easy to navigate. It has links to national and international activist organizations in politics, business, health, the arts, and other contemporary issues of interest to women. You may want to read Inspiring Quotes or the full text Articles and Speeches on a wide range of topics.
Selected Women's & Gender Resources on the World Wide Web (http://www.library.wisc.edu/libraries/WomensStudies/othsubj.htm)
Maintained by the Women's Studies Librarian's Office at the University of Wisconsin, this site has links to dozens of subjects related to women, such as Art, Domestic Violence, Film, Legal Studies, Music, Philosophy, Sports, and many others.
Voice of the Shuttle (http://vos.ucsb.edu)
The Voice of the Shuttle: Web Page for Humanities Research is maintained by a team at UC Santa Barbara. Many of the subject pages will be of use for Women's Studies research. The Gender Studies Page is especially recommended, with its general and specific links for women's studies & feminist theory, gay, lesbian & queer studies, men's movements, and cybergender & techgender. This excellent, searchable site is rich, clearly organized, and frequently up-dated.
WSSLINKS (http://libr.org/wss/WSSLinks/index.html)
The Women's Studies section of the Association of College and Research Libraries maintains this valuable collection of links. It is arranged in categories, including General sites, Archives, Culture, Education, International, Lesbian Sites, Philosophy, Science and Technology, Theology, and others. Each category has its own site with its own developer, so contents and organization vary somewhat. However, all are extensive, current, and well-researched.
