Film on the Internet
Discussion Groups, also known as listservs or electronic conferences, are one of the most useful Internet resources for many purposes, especially scholarship. They give access to expert opinion, both academic and professional, or to lively discussions among enthusiasts. You may "lurk" (sign on and read the postings without entering the discussion), or you may contribute your own questions and opinions. The directories below are searchable and include instructions for subscribing to the lists they identify.
- Directory of Scholarly and Professional E-Conferences (www.kovacs.com/directory.html)
- Publicly Available Mailing Lists (paml.net)
- Tile.net (www.tile.net/lists)
Directories and Search Engines help you find websites of interest. General information on these resources is available in OWL 3. The Internet Search Tools page, created by HSU librarian Corryn Crosby-Muilenburg, includes tutorials and general information as well as links to major directories, search engines, and meta search engines. Below are a few sites that are particularly recommended for finding academically useful information on film topics.
- About.com (about.com)
- Internet Movie Database (us.imdb.com)
- Librarians Index to the Internet (lii.org)
