Located on the second floor of the Humboldt County Library in Eureka, the
Kris Kelly Health Information Center (KKHIC) provides comprehensive health
information to meet the needs of the local community. The goal of the KKHIC
is to provide health consumers with information to help make informed decisions
about their lifestyles and health care choices. There are many links to
consumer health information on the Internet from the home page.
WellnessWeb combines original material with links to many other online
medical medical resources and is focused on an interactive commun ity approach
to the delivery of health care information. Networking between patients,
caregivers, and families is emphasized via discussion and support groups.
Anyone planning on travelling to another country should visit this page
at the Medical College of Wisc onsin. Has links to many other informational
sites.
Web editions of several of AMA's journals, including JAMA: the Journal
of the A merican Medical Association. You must register to access the publications
but registration is free. Most journals only have abstracts of articles
but there are some selected full-text articles.
Not only does this have archives and the current issue of BMJ, it also
has the online journal, Student BMJ. BMJ primarily provides abstracts of
its articles instead of full-text articles.
Lists several of Harvard's own medical publications; e.g, Harvard AIDS
Institute Publications, Harvar d Public Health Review, Whole Brain Atlas,
etc. Has access to Biochemical Journal. Also provides links to several
other listings of electronic publications.
This prestigous journal reports the results of important medical research
worldwide each week. Each article has a lengthy abstract onlin e but not
all articles are available in full text online. The full text may be ordered,
however.

Let's Talk of Mad Cows, Outbreak, Obesity, and Mr. Butts
Approximately 4,000 pages of Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation
documents wer e donated unsolicited to the UCSF Tobacco Control Archives
in 1994. The documents which date from 1957 through 1991 were sent to Stanton
Glantz by someone identified only as "Mr. Butts." The documents are mainly
scientific studies on the addictive natur e of nicotine and other health
effects of tobacco smoke. Brown & Williamson sued to prevent UCSF from
releasing the documents but in June 1995, the California Supreme Court
ruling allowed UCSF to release the documents.
The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, in cooperation with the
National Institute of Diabetes and digestive and Kidney Diseases, has released
the first Federal guidelines on the identification, evaluation, and treatment
of overweight and obesity. A Body Mass Index Calculator is included along
with a Body Mass Index Table.

Maryland, this page provides links to information on bSE (Mad Cow Disease)
and Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, the human brain disease which has been linked
to bSE.
Over 800 tobacco related documents have been released "which a Minnesota
judge has ruled are not protected by the attorney-client privilege." Dating
back to 1954, the documents can be browsed by date, size or Bates stamp
and the full text may be searched. Documents are in pdf format.
