Listed below are the indexes and abstracts most appropriate for geological research. In addition to periodical articles, indexes and abstracts may also index articles/reports published in conference proceedings, government documents, technical reports, dissertations, and other sources. Indexes and abstracts vary in scope, depth and breadth of subject coverage.
Electronic indexes and abstracts are available only to HSU faculty, students and staff. If you are not on campus, you will need to identify yourself in order to search them. See Off Campus Access to Databases for more information.
GEOBASE This electronic version of Geographical Abstracts and Geological Abstracts covers the world's literature in geography, geology and ecology from 1980 to date. Updated monthly.
GEOREF The electronic version of Bibliography and Index of Geology covers the literature of geology for North America (1693 to date) and the rest of the world (1933 to date). It has more than 2.6 million references and is updated biweekly. This is the most comprehensive of the geological indexes. Please read the guide, GeoRef on the Web, prior to using GEOREF.
The QUAKELINE® Database (http://mceer.buffalo.edu/utilities/quakeline.asp) -- QUAKELINE® is a bibliographic database produced by the Multidisciplinary Center for Earthquake Engineering Research (MCEER) Information Service. The database contains bibliographic information on earthquakes, earthquake engineering, natural hazard mitigation, and related topics. It contains over 44,000 records.

- Founded in 1948, AGI is a nonprofit federation of 44 geoscientific and professional associations. Provides access to the Geologic Guidebooks of North America database which "consists of references to geologic field trip guidebooks of North America. Most of the guidebooks cited are from the period 1940-1988. A few are from earlier years. Geoscience Information Society (GSIS) volunteers have added many post-1988 guidebooks to the database. Beginning in 2002, new guidebooks will be added to GeoRef as part of the regular database production, and then added to the guidebook database from the GeoRef records."

- From the Geophysics Department at the University of Washington, this site was developed to "satisfy the public's need for current, descriptive information about tsunamis and the serious threat they pose to coastal communities."
