Elleman, Barbara. Tomie dePaola: His Art & His Stories. Putnam. (PS 3554 E1147 Z65 1999) A coffee table book with more than the usual critical apparatus.

Lorenz, Lee. The World of William Steig. Artisan. (NC 1429 S583 L67 1999) Another pretty one, includes his New Yorker work.

Murray, Gail Schmunk. American Children's Literature and the Construction of Childhood. Twayne/Prentice Hall. (PS 490 M85 1998) From the series editors' note: "Professor Murray places children's literature in its proper social and political context and provides a balanced assessment of both its literary and historical significance. She also includes valuable discussions of how African-American and Native American children were portrayed in children's literature over time as well as an insightful analysis of the recent influence of multiculturalism."

White, Donna R. Dancing With Dragons: Ursula K. LeGuin and the Critics. Camden House. (PS 3562 E42 Z985 1999) LeGuin participated in the development of this book which brings together critical work on the various genres of her work.
