People Who Work Here
|
It takes a lot of people to keep a library going. Here is some general information about HSU library personnel. For more information about the people who work here, including links to email and homepages of librarians and staff, go to Library Personnel Alphabetically. A list of Library Faculty by Subject Specialty is also available.
There are about fourteen full- and part-time librarians in the HSU Library. Some work in public services, some in access services. Nearly all of them spend some hours at the Reference Desk on the first floor, or the Documents Desk on the third floor, or both. They all have master's degrees in library science. Several have other advanced degrees or professional experience in subjects related to their areas of expertise. Librarians in the HSU Library are members of the university faculty.
About twenty-eight full- and part-time paraprofessional, other professional, and clerical staff members also work in the Library. Almost all of them have bachelor's degrees; some have advanced degrees. All have specialized training and experience for the work they do. They work in all departments of the Library. Some are department managers, some work at the Reference or Documents Desks. Department offices, Circulation, Periodicals, and Interlibrary Loan are the places in which library patrons are most likely to meet these members of the Library's staff.
The Library is one of the largest employers of students on campus. Student assistants work in every department of the Library. They check out books at the Circulation desk, perform essential clerical tasks in department offices, sort and reshelve books and periodicals, and help maintain the Library's computers. Some students work in the Library for only a short time; some are here for many years. A few have gone on to become librarians.
