Library Research Tutorials, Classes, and Other Help
Information competence, or information literacy, is the set of skills needed to find, retrieve, evaluate, and use information effectively. These include, but are not limited to, traditional library research skills. For more on information competence, please see the HSU Information Competence page.
Test your skill with this Information Literacy Game.
Here are links to many of the resources our library offers to assist our users in learning, teaching, and maintaining information competence skills:
- OWLS: Online Workshops for Library Skills
The 6 OWLS are designed to help anyone learn basic skills for using the HSU Library in both its physical and virtual manifestations. Each OWL includes a statement of its purpose, a list of objectives, supplementary "handouts," suggested exercises, and a quiz. - Beginning Academic Research (SP 285) will not be offered this semester.
- Research Guides by Subject
Our librarian faculty have created guides to selected resources for every major and program in the HSU curriculum. These are linked on this page, along with handouts for finding specific types of information or using particular sources. - HSU Library's Information Competence Program
This page describes our instructional services. Some are available to all patrons, some are for the campus only, and some are for local teachers and school groups. - Library Assignments: Tips, Samples, Suggestions,
