Periodical Title Abbreviations
Databases and scholarly literature frequently cite journal and magazine sources in an abbreviated format. Good places to find help in deciphering abbreviations include:

Abbreviation Sources is a master directory to these publication lists
and other general lists, arranged by broad subject area. - Journal and Newspaper Finder allows you to find matching titles by entering word stems, e.g., "ecol mono" finds Ecological Monographs; or by entering common journal abbreviations, e.g., "jacs" finds Journal of the American Chemical Society. It is limited to only periodicals to which HSU has access.
- Common Citation Abbreviations (Ohio State University Science and Engineering Library) lists common common abbreviations used in citations to books and periodical articles, e.g., proc, zeit.
- Periodical Title Abbreviations: By Abbreviation (ref Z 6945 A2 P47) Includes 130,000 periodical title abbreviations.

- Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (ref RT 1 C85) Use Journals and Serials Indexed in every volume except Subject Headings.

- List of Serials Indexed for Online Users (U.S. National Library of Medicine) Lists over 10,000 publications that have been indexed in Medline. List of Journals Indexed in Index Medicus (ref R 5 C863) lists the 4,500 journals currently indexed in Medline.
- SCI: Science Citation Index Guide and List of Source Publications (ref Q 1 S342)
- World List of Scientific Periodicals Published in the Years 1900-1960 (Brown & Stratton) 1963 (ref Z 7403 W923 1993) Lists approximately 60,000 periodicals "arranged in alphabetical order of the important words of the titles;" also includes the standard periodical abbreviation.
- Zoological Record Serial Sources (ref QL 1 Z6613) Lists over 10,000 journals in zoology. Zoological Record Serials List lists 5,000 titles currently indexed in Zoological Record.
