Gus and Corinne "Corkey" Nordstrom

Active in business and as community volunteers, Gus and Corkey Nordstrom felt that the community had been good to them. In turn, they wanted to give something back and established a charitable trust to benefit the Humboldt State University Library. When the trust term ended, the remaining assets were placed in an endowment fund to benefit the Library.

The Nordstroms also included a generous bequest for the Library in their living trust, designated for the same purpose as the charitable trust-to purchase instructional materials, including media.

The main lobby of the Library was dedicated the Nordstrom Main Room in their honor in 1992. "Because Humboldt State University Library maintains resources for academic programs, the trust benefits all students attending the University," Corkey stated regarding their decision. "We always felt that education is critical to our future well-being. Gus and I took great pleasure in giving back to a community that has been so good to our family. I would encourage others to explore how they too can support educational programs."
