Begin Your Research at HSU
Begin Research Tutorial
Welcome to the Humboldt State University Library research tutorial “Begin Your Research at HSU,” a series of seven chapters. Anyone can view the tutorial, but HSU students who have been assigned all or part of the tutorial will have the quiz questions for each chapter they are required to complete available in their Canvas Course.

In Summer 2020 HSU Library will be retiring the Begin Your Research Tutorial. We will no longer be making updates on the “Begin Your Research” tutorial and it will not continue to be hosted on the Library website. You can copy the content into your course and modify any components to suit your needs.
In place of this tutorial, we would like to recommend our online SkillShops that provide an introduction to a variety of information literacy topics.
Integrating Online SkillShops Into Your Canvas Course
You can add any of our online SkillShops as an assignment in your course by importing the SkillShop from the Canvas Commons (instructions on importing from Canvas Commons). Simply search for the course you're interested in and add the assignment to your course. Students will upload their SkillShops badge to your course to show that they completed the SkillShop. If you would like to learn more about using online SkillShops in your course, contact us: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Online SkillShops available in the Canvas Commons as importable assignments:
- HSU Library: APA Citations
- HSU Library: Getting Started with Camtasia
- HSU Library: Getting Started with WordPress
- HSU Library: MLA Citations
- HSU Library: Research Basics
You can preview these online SkillShops on our SkillShops Guide by self-enrolling. More online SkillShops are in development.
If you are interested in having a librarian visit your class, please submit a request through our Library Instruction and Librarian Collaboration Request form.
