The following CD-ROM spatial data sets found in the HSU Library can be used
with the ArcView GIS program that is
installed on Geospatial Computers on the first floor of the Library. See Digital
Spatial Data--Internet Data for other data sets that can be downloaded from
the Internet or purchased from commercial sources.
World
- Africa Data Sampler (World Resources Institute) 1995 (G 2445
W54 1995) Contains data on drainage, topography, infrastructure, parks and
protected areas, forests, wetlands, and populations of subnational administrative
units at a scale of 1:1,000,000.
- ESRI Data & Maps (ESRI) 1999 (Atlas G 70.6.221 E77 1999--shelved
at Table B) Five cd-rom set of ready-to-use data in shapefile format that
covers the world in general, Mexico, Canada, European countries, the United
States in general and individual states. A huge collection of thematic data
at varying geographies.
- Global Ecosystems Database (US National Geophysical Data
Center) Collection of datasets that address the ecological dimensions of global
change and are intended for global and regional biogeographical modeling.
The original edition consists of two parts. Disc B 1997 (Docs
C 55.54 G51/3/CD) contains 14 datasets. The GeoVu display software allows
one to select a specific dataset, identify the geographic area of interest,
and output the data for use in a GIS system. Disc A is included
as part of the Global View dataset (G 1046 C1 G56 1994) and
contains 16 datasets. See Global Ecosystem Database on

cd-roms. A combined and updated dataset is available as Global Ecosystems Database
(GED) Version-II (2000) which is available for downloading.
- Global GIS Database (US Geological Survey) 2000-2001 (USGS
Digital Data Series DDS-62) (Docs I 19:121:62 cd-rom) Series of 7 cd-roms
organized by regions of the world that contain 1:1 million-scale thematic
maps for each major region of the world. Data layers include geology, hydrology,
volcanoes, seismicity, ore deposits, enery resources, climate data, ecological
regions, and other geographic and cultural data. The database can be used
with ArcView or the included ArcView Data Publisher software. For additional

- HAZPAC: An Interactive Map of Pacific Rim
Natural Hazards, Population, and Infrastructure (US Geological Survey)
2002 (USGS Digital Data Series DDS-76) (CD-ROM available in Docs I 19.121:76
cd-rom) Digital natural hazards project spanning the Pacific Rim that contains
a variety of environmental, social, and economic data layers that connect
natural hazards to social and economic globalization. Available in three file
formats--ArcExplorer, ArcView with Spatial Analyst and ArcView w/o Spatial
Analyst.
- U.S. Geological
Survey World Petroleum Assessment 2000 - Description and Results (US Geological
Survey) 2000 (USGS Digital Data Series DDS-60) (CD-ROM available in Docs I
19.121:60 cd-rom) Includes report and supporting maps in pdf and ERSI-compatible
formats.
- Vector Map Level 0 (VMAP0) (U.S. National Imagery and Mapping
Agency) 2000 (Docs 5.358: VMAP0 SASAUS) Global data set based primarily on
the vectorized versions of the 300-sheet 1:1 million scale Operational
Navigation Charts (Map G 3201 P6 s1000 U5). The world is split into
four geographic zones, each available on a single cd-rom. Vectorized data
content includes 10 thematic layers: political boundaries and coastlines;
elevation and contour lines; transportation networks; hydrography; utility
networks; vegetation cover; industry; physiography; and population. VMAP0
updates and improves the older Digital Chart of the World
data set. Can be used in ArcView using the VPF Viewer extension or with the
standalone VPFViewer software, one of the NIMAMUSE
software products.

- Atlas Estadistico Republica Argentina (Instituto
Nacional de Estadistica y Censos) 1995 (Atlas G 1755 I57 1995)
United States
- 1:100,000-Scale Digital Line Graph (DLG) Data, Hydrography and Transportation
(US Geological Survey) (Docs I 19.120 D56 cd-rom) The 14 area cd-roms in two
format series - standard format and optional ArcView compatible format - cover
the conterminous U.S. and Hawaii. Includes vector-based data. See Digital Line Graphs (DLGs)
for additional information. Software is included for selecting and extracting
data from the cd-roms.
- 1:2,000,000-Scale Digital Line Graph Data (US Geological Survey)
(Docs I 19.120:D56 cd-rom) Includes vector-based data on boundaries, hydrography,
transportation, cultural features, public land survey systems data as derived
from the National Atlas of the United States 1:2 million sectionals. Available
in standard and optional ArcView compatible formats. See Digital Line Graphs (DLGs)
for additional information.
- Basins 3.0 : Better Assessment Integrating Point and Nonpoint Sources
(US Environmental Protection Agency. Office of Science and Technology) 2001
(Docs 2.8 B29 2001 cd-rom and print user guide) BASINS is designed for performing
water quality assessment and analysis at selected stream sites or throughout
an entire watershed. Coverage includes the 48 contiguous states and the District
of Columbia. Integrated within an ArcView GIS environment is an extensive
collection of point source and nonpoint source data coupled with hydrologic
assessment and modeling tools. Included are (1) point and nonpoint databases
with Data Extraction and Project Builder tools; (2) assessment tools (TARGET,
ASSESS, and Data Mining) that address large- and small-scale characterization
needs; (3) utilities to facilitate importing local data and for organizing
and evaluating data; (4) Watershed Delineation tools; (5) utilities for classifying
elevation (DEM), land use, soils, and water quality data; (6)Watershed Characterization
Reports that facilitate compilation and output of information on selected
watersheds; (7) an in- stream water quality model; (8) two watershed loading
and transport models and (9) a simplified GIS based nonpoint annual loading

- Capital Cities of the United States (US Geological Survey)
(Docs I 19.128 C17 cd-rom) DRGs of capital cities.
- Climate Atlas of the United States (National Climatic Data
Center) 2002 (Docs C 55.281/2-2:C61 CD Disk) Contains over 2000 climate maps
that are available as either pdf files or ArcView shapefiles. Maps are available
on a base that includes the contiguous United States, Hawaii or Alaska. For

- Geology of the Conterminous United States at 1:2,500,000 Scale - A
Digital Representation of the 1974 P.B. King and H.M. Beikman Map
(US Geological Survey) 1978 (Digital Data Series 11) (Docs I 19.121:11 cd-rom)
Available as an ArcView project. Also available online.
- Great Basin
Geoscience Data Base (US Geological Survey) 1996 (cd-rom available in
Docs I 19.121 cd-rom) Geoscience data provided includes basemap, geological,
geophysical and geochemical coverages. Data is available in three different
formats: ARC/INFO export, Federal Data Exchange format (SDTS), and ArcView
shapefile.
- NTAD 2000 (US Department of Transportation) 2000 (G 1201 P1
U57 2000) Collection of GIS data layers depicting transportation facilities,
networks, and services on a national base. Most data is at a scale of 1:100,000.
Files are in ASCII format and must be converted to .shp files for use in ArcView.

- Southern Appalachian Assessment GIS Data Base (Southern Appalachian
Man and Biosphere Program) 1996 (Docs E 1.11:So8 cd-rom) Dataset on the region's
ecosystems including its air, water, and land resources. See Southern Appalachian Assessment (SAA)

- ZIA Landform Images: Digital Basemaps (G 1201 A1 Z53 1995)
Contains geo-referenced color-shaded relief maps in .tif and .gif formats
for each state and 10 regional groupings with accompanying vector maps containing
political and physical features.
California
- Digital Database of Faults from the Fault Activity Map of California
and Adjacent Areas (Jennings) 2000 (Cal Docs C810 F37 ) Layers consist
of base map and fault database. The database, available in ARC/INFO and MAPINFO
formats, contains the faults shown on the Fault activity map of California
and adjacent areas, by Charles W. Jennings, published in 1994.
- GAP Analysis of Mainland California: An Interactive Atlas of Terrestrial
Biodiversity and Land Management (California GAP Analysis Project)
1995 (Atlas QH 76.5 C2 C34 1995) Contains GIS data sets developed for the
California GAP Analysis Project. Data is available in statewide datasets or
in subsets by ecological region. Data sets include landcover, land stewardship
and ownership, Jepson ecological region boundaries, predicted distribution
of 455 terrestrial vertebrate species, and other basic reference data sets. For additional information or to download GIS coverages directly from

- GIS Data for the Geologic Map of California (California Division
of Mines and Geology) 2000 (Cal Docs C 810 G46 cd) Contains both a .tiff image
and an .e00 export file of the 1977 Geologic Map of California by Charles
Jennings.
- GIS Files Of Official Alquist-Priolo Earthquake Fault Zones
(California Division of Mines and Geology) 2001 (Cal Docs C 810 A732) Three
cd-rom set that includes all Earthquake Fault Zone Maps of California.. Maps
are available in three different GIS file formats. See Earthquake

Northwestern California
- GIS Data for the Watersheds Mapping Series, Map Set 1, Noyo River
Watershed (California Division of Mines and Geology) 2001 (Cal Docs
C 810 N69cd) GIS data set containing geologic and geomorphic feature (landslide)
maps and landslide potential maps for the Noyo River watershed.
- Maps and GIS Data for the Watersheds Mapping Series. Maps set 3, Digital
representation of OFR 99-10 & OFR 99-10a, Freshwater Creek, Humboldt County,
California (Falls) 2002 (G4363.H8 F35 2002 Humboldt County Collection)
Contains PDF copies of the original maps and digital presentations of the
documents and maps produced from the Freshwater Watershed Mapping Project.
These include Geologic and geomorphic features related to landsliding,
Freshwater Creek, Humboldt County, California; and, Relative landslide
potential map, Freshwater Creek, Humboldt County, California. Arcview
or Arcinfo are required to view the GIS data.
- North Coast Watersheds Mapping (California Division of Mines
and Geology) 1999 (Cal Docs C810 W39) Series of 60 1:24,000 quadrangles
that provide detailed mapping of the geology and geomorphic features affecting
landslide potential, soil erosion and streambank erosion in sensitive watersheds
of Mendocino, Humboldt, and Del Norte Counties of California. Includes both
the original maps in pdf format and GIS files in .e00 export format. Watersheds

- Gap Analysis of Oregon (US Gap Analysis Program) 1999
(QH76.5.O7 G37 1999 ) Final report that includes a set of GIS databases
describing actual land cover type, historical land cover type, terrestrial
vertebrate species distributions, land stewardship, and land management
status at a scale of 1:100,000. The report is also available online.
- Utah
- Digital Geologic Map of Utah (Hintze) 2000 (G4341.C5 2000
.H5 ) Data includes geology, county boundaries, roads, contours and base
map image files which are available as ArcView shapefiles and ArcInfo
coverages. Also includes PDF files of both the 1:500,000 geologic map
and the explanation sheet.
- Washington
- Digital Geologic Maps of the 1:100,000 Quadrangles of Washington
(Washington Division of Geology and Earth Resources ) 2002 (G4281.C51
W37 2002) Contains statewide 1:100,000-scale digital geologic coverage
of Washington in ARC/INFO coverage format. The same files are available
